Have I been? Life is a little bit crazy these days but this morning while doing my makeup I thought you should start blogging again. Life is going to be crazy for a lot longer so you just better take the bull by the horns and get going. Here I am. I've got lots of random things to share most of them have nothing to do with hair accessories but I'm sure you'll enjoy them just as much. Here goes:

I have found the best toothpaste ever.

It is called Crest Scope Outlast. I'm not kidding. I found this stuff around Thanksgiving time and was in love at first brush. It leaves your teeth minty fresh for hours. I LOVE IT. I told all my extended family about it and have made a lot of converts. I wonder if Crest will start giving me coupons for being such a marketer.... Anyway, one brother-in-law commented after his trial that. "My teeth have gone from butter yellow to popcorn yellow." Not sure what you want to take from that but you've got to give it a go. You will not regret it. Let me know if you do or if you have and what you think.

Next item of business. I have found the best place to buy toys. Do your kids constantly make requests for things like ninja sets and blue guns and bow and arrows that won't break and horse jumping sets? If not, thank your lucky stars but our Santa and Easter Bunny are worn out from trying to please these hard-to-please youngsters. Santa can make anything they say, but alas, never brings them exactly what they wanted. Because blue guns don't exist...I thought...Until my visit yesterday to KINGS! I'm not kidding. I was complaining to my sis-in-law about how Wal-mart is discontinuing all the things I like to buy and it really is chapping my hide. She said I should try Kings for toys. I did and wowsers. It was amazing. They had blue guns. Blue I tell you. Jumping horse sets, ninja sets, ninja turtle sets.... all the things my boys have been asking for for the last two years of gift receiving holidays and have never gotten because I can't find them. I had to call my husband and have him coax me out of emptying our bank account in one visit. Anyway, if you're having a hard time finding specific toy requests give Kings a shot. I wasn't disappointed.

Now I've shared my latest finds I'm asking for help from you. I need new shoes. Let me preface this by saying I AM SHORT. I will not wear flats. They make me feel super duper short and I hate that. I am looking for both black and brown shoes that I can wear on a daily basis without breaking my ankles, that are somewhat comfortable (see I'm not that picky) that have a wedge or huge base or any kind of height inducing qualities. Do they make shoes like this anymore? I have looked quite a bit and all I'm finding is heels, flats galore, and flip flops. Do people not wear regular brown and black shoes anymore? Please update me on where to find these extinct shoes. I don't want grandma ones either. Am I being specific enough?

p.s. no promises but I plan on posting at least one more time this year :)

We've got some new things at ChloeReese.com and we're in the mood to celebrate. I love new things, I love starting a new book, getting new clothes (who doesn't?), starting a new project. New is just good.

With the start of summer I'm excited about NEW. I've printed off chore charts with the hopes of actually sticking to them, I've set new goals for myself, and before I get downtrodden with reality I'm going to kick off the summer with a very vintage giveaway with some of our NEWEST products. So I've been working on some new fun things to put in my stores, they are layered flowers with feathers (on some), and varied vintage centers, each one is unique. We also decided to make them even more versatile by adding a broach pin to the back in addition to a hair clip. That way you can wear it on your jacket, shirt, hat, or dress....pin it to your hand bag, and wear it in your hair, or daughter's hair. We just sent this shipment to Amara Day Spa in Lindon...go and check them out.

A New Smaller Crochet Hat

I know I've said it a thousand times but these little hats are just the cutest and NOW we have them in little sizes. It's Birthday Time

Yep, today is my big old birthday Yeah!! I love birthdays. I always stress my poor husband out because I make such a big deal out of it. He is amazing though and didn't disappoint. I woke up to delish coffee cake and orange juice (he had already left for work but had gotten up early to surprise me). Love that guy. Anyway, point is, I want to really celebrate this year so I'm putting MY personal favorites on sale for today only. It's a little Kellie's Birthday Sale. How are your headbands different from other companies?

Flowers: We try to choose only the highest quality, nicest looking and feeling flowers available. If we don't like the quality of a flower we will discontinue it and find something better

Glue: Unlike other hair accessory companies who simply smack some hot glue on it and sell it for ridiculous prices. We use several different glues and we take the time to hand sew a lot of our layers of flowers together and then hand sew them onto the ribbon. You can't beat needle and thread in durability.

Colors: We love color here at Chloe Reese. That is why we offer a lot of variety. We even hand dye a lot of flowers and bands to create unique and hard to find colors.

Clips: We offer a variety of clip options because different styles require different hardware.
Our pinch clips are covered with a satin ribbon and left clean on the bottom for easy slide in. The top is covered with Vel-cro for a stay-put fit.
Our snap clips are available in a variety of sizes and are perfect for all hair types. From thin and fine to thick and course.

Headbands: Babies deserve to be comfortable. That is why we sell only adjustable and soft band headbands. Our nylon bands are incredibly soft and stretchy and don't harm or irritate precious babies. Our adjustable bands adjust to fit your babies head perfectly. They come in 2 sizes.
Small: Fits approximately Newborn-12 Months 12"-16"
Large: Fits approximately 6 Months-Lifetime (Adults too) 15-20"

Shipping: We ship Monday-Friday. If your order is in stock and paid for by 3:00 we will ship it that day! If it is out of stock and has to be made by hand please allow 5 business days before your item(s) ship.

Can I wash my nylon bands?
Once your nylon bands get dirty you can wash then with a gentle liquid detergent and warm water by hand. Simply rub it with your hands and lay flat to dry. Not only does it look good as new it will also regain it's stretch.
*Don't leave the band sitting in the water for an exceptional amount of time because the glues will start to weaken.

Organizing Projects

I will be the first to admit I was not the most organized gal on the block. But recently (Fall is my season I guess) I got to it. Here is what works for me. Maybe you'll also get inspired to finally organize that daunting bathroom drawer.

This one is a fishing tackle box that keeps all my doodads straight
Containers:
Go to the local store in the tool, gadget section. They have better stuff at a better price. I use them for organizing my business too. They have awesome mini drawers and little boxes etc. I like them because unlike the sewing organizing versions they have larger sections and seem more reasonably priced. One draw back is they come in weird colors like bright yellow. I simply bought special plastic spray paint and painted them a neutral tan. These would work great for you scrapbookers out there too and at a fraction of the price compared to some of the fancy schmancy things they offer. More practical too.

Here is my fabric ribbon board.

Boards:
I love my ribbon boards. I've seen these for sale at Pottery Barn for $99.00 and I do sale them occasionally for a much smaller price but it's fun to make them yourself and I will tell you how I do it.
Canvas Board. (sorry not pictured)
Buy a huge canvas board (available at your local crafting stores). Spray paint it (don't do anything too dark or it will take about 45 coats...I'm speaking from experience). Ivory, light pink are great options. It comes in white so there is one step alleviated if you want it white. Then take a nice ribbon and cut it the length of the board plus some to wrap around. Hot glue the ribbon down on the edges (not back) of the canvas board. Take your handy staple gun, (these are only about $11.00 and handy for so many things) staple the ribbon securely in place. If you have any extra ribbon trim it off. Next take a 5/8 inch ribbon and hot glue it around the outside covering the sides and making a nice finished product.

These are a bit more labor intensive but look so nice when complete.

Supplies:
Frame
Poster Board
Batting
fabric
ribbon
sewing machine
hot glue
staple gun
pins

Cut poster board to fit tightly inside the frame. Wrap batting around the edges by hot gluing and stapling in place. Lay out your fabric and place the ribbons where you want them (I did some close together for the small clips and some farther apart for the larger ones). Pin them in place and whip out your handy dandy sewing machine and sew them down. Now wrap your ribboned fabric and glue and staple in place around poster board. Push it carefully into the frame and staple it down. Now place a nice fabric or paper over the back for a clean finished look.

Hang that baby up and fill 'er up with NOTHING BUT CHLOE REESE PRODUCTS :)

Owning your own business is a lot of work but there are some super fun things too. One of which is PHOTO SHOOTS. It was crazy and stressful and the whole time you're thinking why oh why did I sign up for this...babies fussing, wind blowing, you get the idea but, then, when it's all done and you have all these beautiful pictures you forget about the drama and stress and then you think --I want to do that again! I'm not sure if anyone still reads this poor neglected blog. I know I know I just have been so stinking busy. We have not been neglecting our work though and are excited for some new changes. One of which is BOY STUFF! I have two little boys and always have requests for something a little less feminine. Well coming soon is the launch of Chade & Crew. The name you ask? Well my boys are Cade and Chance so we mushed their names together and added Crew. If we have another boy I hope I can convince the hubby that Crew is a very cute and suitable name for him or he will feel very left out. First, I want to thank everyone who made it to the sales this last week, it was a lot of fun to get to know and visit with our customers. And thanks to my wonderful helpers Rach, Steph, and Haley. Love you gals!
For those of you out-of-state and or just couldn't make it-- we will have our online sale this summer and are always putting items on sale via the website so don't forget to check often for new things.
We are going to be adding credit card services hopefully by the end of the summer ( I say hopefully because these projects seem so simple at the beginning and they never end up that way).
Now to the Contest. At the sales we talked a lot about hair ideas. We all go through hair ruts (I'm currently in one with my little girl's bob). New Clip Display Idea

For one of our newest retailers Peekaboo photo I came up with a new clip display. I needed a place to put a lot of large clips in a relatively small space. You may have the same problem at home so I thought this might be an idea you ladies would like to try. I'm not an expert or anything but this is how I made mine. I bought this super cute tin from my good friend Melissa who has a home decor business called a Place to Call Home. You can get items like this and other super cute things by contacting her through her website. Fill the tin with flower arranging foam (after the fact I would have filled the bottom with something less expensive but heavy and then hot glued the foam in place on top). After that I stuck in the curly sticks and covered the foam with moss (hot gluing it of course). Add the bow and hook your Chloe Reese clips to the sticks. It would be a fun addition to a little girls room and it is a great way to keep your clips handy and from getting ruined.

They Came TODAY!!

So one of the Biscotti dress styles came today. They won't be on the website for a bit because we have to set the system up for sizes but I couldn't wait to whet your appetite for these delicious, delectable dresses. Chloe is wearing a size 4. The 9 and 12 month are the same only without the extra spaghetti strap --see picture. They are made of 100% silk, 100% polyester for the lining. They are the most beautiful pale pink with beading across the waistline and flowers (of course) with pink pearl centers adorning the neckline and pleats on the bubble style bottom. It is just to die for.

A new Hairstyle to Try

When you look from the front I'm sure you're thinking, wowee, pig tails, now that's original, but when you see the back it's a real surprise. It was suggested by my friend Tanya whose girl's hair beats all. It probably doesn't hurt that they are beautiful to boot. Anyway here are some basic instructions.

1. Wet hair and part down the middle, put half in an elastic to keep it out of the way.
(hint: if your daughter wants to lay down and watch tv it is an easy upside down style and helps keep them entertained)

2. Part the side into three sections ending at the top where you want the high ponytail to end. (I like to take a claw clip and hook it on so you don't loose your part).

3. Comb from the neck up to the first part (so it will be nice and smooth) and wrap the elastic tightly around.

4. Now take that little pony and add it to the next partitioned hair making sure to smoothly comb each time.

5. Repeat for the final section and do the same on the other side

6. Hairspray like crazy.

7. Dry and curl the top of the piggies using a small curling iron (the hot tools brand sold only at salons are the best and well worth the money)

8. Attach the flower claws found on our website under hair flowers.

9. Stand back in awe of your newfound hair styling abilities.

Chloe Reese and Locks of Love

I want to start my first post off with something very special to me and that is my daughter Chloe Reese. Today she cut her beautiful long blonde hair off and is donating it to Locks of Love. I'm so proud of her and wanted to share a few photos. About a month ago I read an article about donating your hair for sick children and mentioned to Chloe that someday she should do that. To my surprise she was gung-ho and ready to go. I set up the appointment but as it neared I'm afraid I was in mourning over her beautiful hair. She got tons of attention with it and I admit I loved doing it all fancy. It is really for a great cause and I love her new look. We will have lots of fun coming up with new styles. She is such a great example and I love her so much.
